This commemorative symposium is a tribute to a distinguished researcher and leading authority in the field of cultural anthropology. His contributions spanned a wide range of disciplines, including field studies on artistic and musical heritage, theater, and cinema, as well as his seminal work on language and the methodology of intangible heritage analysis. The symposium will be divided into two parts: an informative session featuring research papers on his career and academic output, and a memorial session with testimonials about Hadj Miliani as a person, researcher, and professor, shared by his friends, colleagues, students, and family. The late Hadj Miliani (1951-2021) was one of the most important researchers at the CRASC research center since its inception. He was also a professor of French literature at the University of Mostaganem and a member of the National Advisory Council for Cultural Heritage. At the center level, the deceased supervised the "Heritage" notebook series since its first issue in 2001, and contributed specialized scientific articles to the journal "Humanities." He continued to work until his last days as a research associate in the Department of Anthropology of the Imagination and Social Processes, where he supervised his last project - still in progress today - "Fields of Algerian Written Literature (2010-2020): Actors, Institutions and Formations" in three languages: Arabic, Amazigh and French, which constituted a landmark in research in the fields of Algerian literature through the statistical research methodologies followed, as well as through the adoption of intersecting research visions that consolidate integrated work in the various genres of Algerian literature and its criticism, and its diverse languages. In addition to his profound impact on university education from the University of Oran to the University of Mostaganem, passing through the Doctoral School of French in Saida and other universities in western Algeria, his last contribution in this context was his supervision of the organization of the Doctoral Training Series for the benefit of doctoral students in the disciplines of literature in its three languages ​​across the universities of the country, in May/June 2021, which was his last activity at the center.

The text of the tribute symposium for Professor Hadj Meliani: On Friday, July 2, 2021, we at the Research Center in Social and Cultural Anthropology received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Professor Hadj Meliani, a professor at the University of Mostaganem and a research associate at the Center. We have taken the initiative to organize this tribute symposium as a way of acknowledging a specialized researcher and a leading authority in the field of cultural anthropology, thanks to his significant contributions to field studies on artistic and musical heritage, theater, and cinema, not to mention his seminal studies on language and the methodology of analyzing intangible heritage. This gathering aims to shed light on the life and career of the deceased, from his beginnings in the old Sidi El Houari neighborhood of Oran, through his time at Paris 13 University and his dissertation on "The Literary Field and Novelistic Production in French Published in Algeria (1970-1995)," to his impact on university education from the University of Oran to Mostaganem, and his contribution to establishing heritage and linguistic studies from an anthropological perspective at the CRASC. The late scholar's impact on the CRASC was evident through his supervision of research projects on various themes related to intangible heritage and cultural expressions. Among his most significant contributions were the National Research Project: Cultural Heritage in Algeria, the establishment of the "Heritage" notebook series in 2001, and the publication of several books and high-quality articles in the journal "Insaniyat." He also led numerous training workshops at the Doctoral School of Anthropology since its inception. His most recent and ongoing research project, "Fields of Algerian Literature Written in Arabic, Amazigh, and French (2010-2020)," was a distinguished work. This commemorative event will be divided into two parts: an academic presentation of research papers on his scholarly output, and a memorial service featuring testimonials about Hadj Miliani as a person, researcher, and professor, in the presence of his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
