Concept note
It is no longer a secret that cultural patrimony is a significant asset for societies, representing a symbolic and even material wealth passed down through generations in various forms. Its importance is further highlighted by the need to preserve it, not only for the society in question but also for humanity as a whole, as it is primarily a human heritage. In this spirit, UNESCO has sought to strengthen its role in preserving and protecting this heritage through mandatory laws and regulations. In 2003, it declared the key areas of immaterial patrimony classification, which include "traditions and oral expressions, performing arts and traditions, social practices, rituals and celebrations, skills associated with traditional crafts, traditional food culture, and folk games." The material patrimony, such as archaeological sites, buildings, and works of art, is inventoried through statistics and documentation
The process of inventorying and classifying material and immaterial patrimony is essential, both nationally and globally through UNESCO, to protect it from disappearance, document it, and promote its cultural treasures. Classification is also a valuable asset for sustainable development and tourism, providing a database for research and knowledge, as it documents the history of the society and its collective memory.
This workshop will address the topic of "Inventorying and Documenting material and immaterial patrimony," presenting ideas and experiences related to heritage research, from fieldwork to the difficulties, procedures, and challenges, with a particular focus on reviewing Tunisian and Algerian experiences in this field
