The third seminar: Tribute to the late Ismet Terki Hassaine (1948-2020)
The Center for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology of Oran, in partnership with the Faeloun Center, will organize a tribute to the late Professor Ismet Terki Hassaine, a leading figure and key figure in Algerian Hispanic studies, on June 22nd at 2:00 PM at the CRASC headquarters (USTO). The seminar will trace Professor Terki Hassaine's professional and personal life, drawing on testimonies from those who knew him well (colleagues, doctoral students, friends, etc.). This leading figure in Hispanic studies served for many years as head of the Spanish department at the University of Oran (1987-1990; 1996-2008). He also worked extensively on the history of Algeria during the Ottoman period, drawing on Spanish archives, and participated in numerous research projects at the CRASC (Centre for Research and Studies on Civilization), such as:
PNR Project entitled: Algeria: History and Society - Another Perspective - Studies of Archives and Testimonies in Algeria and Abroad, 2001.
PNR Project entitled: Analysis of the Correspondence of the Spanish Consulate in Algiers (1787-1797) Preserved in the National Historical Archives of Madrid, 2013.
Passionate about history and eager to share his knowledge, he authored and contributed to several publications at the CRASC and elsewhere, including:
The Regency of Algiers in the 18th Century by Alonso Cano, published by Dar El Qods El Arabi in 2010.
Political and commercial relations between Spain and Ottoman Algeria (1700-1830), published by the University of Alcalá de Henares in 2011.
Foreign Documentary Sources. Algeria: History and Society - Another Perspective - Studies of Archives and Testimonies in Algeria and Abroad, 2005.
He has also supervised numerous doctoral students in the Spanish departments of Oran, as well as in Algiers, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen.
