The scientific symposium entitled "Emir Abdelkader of Algeria: Politician, Writer, and Resistance Fighter" is part of the center's lecture program. It is an opportunity to highlight the publications produced by the Research Unit on Culture, Communication, Literature, Languages, and Arts, which focus on this figure who embodied struggle, literature, and Sufism.

Emir Abdelkader is a unique figure, a reformer and innovator who revived the features of the modern Algerian state, re-established its foundations, and built it with a vision and innovative mechanisms rooted in the heart of society. He focused on its vital institutions through the "bay'ah" (oath of allegiance), which he considered a social and political contract. His historical journey is a pioneering experience in the Islamic world, worthy of study and attention, and still requires further in-depth research to fully illuminate its complexities, despite the studies conducted both within and outside Algeria.

This scholarly symposium offers an opportunity to discuss aspects of this figure's life, highlighting his struggles (1832-1847), the periods that followed until his death in 1883, his humanitarian stances related to religious tolerance in the Levant, and his enduring works in poetry, Sufism, and human rights.

It also provides an opportunity to continue the discussion on this figure's conception of the "other" and his recognition of them, the importance of communication with them through acknowledging the human need for one another, appreciating their "practical reason," and spreading the values ​​of love, tolerance, and coexistence among peoples.
