abstract
This research project focuses on Algerian zawiyas and schools, examining their historical, architectural, artistic, and spiritual dimensions across the entire national territory. The study highlights the importance of these monuments as cultural heritage, aiming to document their historical, geographical, and archaeological features, while proposing strategies for preservation. It also seeks to underscore their original role in safeguarding Algerian identity and to reestablish their architectural, artistic, and spiritual foundations. Case studies include both vanished and existing zawiyas in Algiers, examples from Soummam and Beni Ourtilane, as well as sites in southern Algeria. Schools under study include pre-colonial institutions in Algiers, Khank al-Nataḥ in Oran, and the Salah Bey school in Constantine……………….
