abstract

Theatre, like other literary and artistic forms, has often accompanied major revolutionary experiences. The Revolution of 1889, the Paris Commune, the Russian Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, and liberation struggles in Africa and Latin America were supported by artists and writers who sought to depict the lived realities of patriots and republicans resisting repressive and dictatorial regimes. History thus intersects with artistic ventures, investing them with particular meaning and enabling new aesthetic configurations.
