abstract
In line with the growing interest in civilizational history within Algerian universities, this national research project examines the commercial systems of the states that emerged in the geographical space of the Central Maghreb—Algeria during the medieval period—from the Rustamids to the Ziyanids. The project seeks to broaden academic inquiry into Algeria’s civilizational and economic history by renewing historical research methods through diverse sources, particularly archival documents. By integrating written sources, contracts, and archaeological findings such as coins and imported artifacts, the study aims to identify the defining features of the commercial systems of these states. A comprehensive and modern methodological approach is required to decode these systems within the broader framework of the medieval economic order.
