abstract
Since the beginning of the century, youth has emerged as a socially and media-visible category. The social sciences have taken up this object to analyze how it is socially constructed (Bourdieu 1984, 2002), how it is represented, particularly in its marginal dimension (Chamboredon 1971), and how it adapts to various crises (Mauger 1994; Renahy 2005). Generational aspects are also addressed, situating youth within a chain of transmission as well as within contemporaneity (Mannheim 1990).
In Algeria, some studies have focused on youth, often within the school environment. They examine how this category perceives schooling (Haddab and Kennouche 1981; Bengherbit-Remaoun 1993), how it invests in the educational project, what strategies are deployed to capitalize on diplomas, and what differences exist between boys and girls in accessing higher social status (H. Cherif 2007)……..
