abstract
Preschool education, an important stage in the educational system, has never achieved its own evolution or stability despite occasional official measures to promote it. After independence, it was abandoned in favor of the goal of democratizing schooling for six-year-old children. A relative interest from public authorities emerged with the establishment of the Fundamental School in 1976. It was only in the 1981/82 academic year, with the implementation of the reform project, that official preschool education was introduced through the creation of a limited number of kindergarten classes within primary schools, primarily for the children of Ministry of Education staff. The decision to open preparatory classes was left to the discretion of school principals, even though a number of educators had been trained during the 1980s at the Institute of Educational Technology to take charge of this type of teaching…..
