Evaluating the Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Treating Psychological Disorders

This project seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) within the Algerian clinical context. Numerous international studies have demonstrated its scientific and clinical importance; in 2005, Aaron Beck, the founder of cognitive theory, received a prize equivalent to the Nobel Prize in Physiology and was recognized among the five most influential figures in the United States for the value of his contributions. Research has shown that CBT can be as effective as pharmacological interventions in treating various psychological disorders, and Cottraux even argued that it surpasses traditional psychotherapies, particularly psychoanalytic, family, and systemic approaches. These findings raise critical questions about the outcomes CBT may achieve in Algeria. While some local studies at the master’s and doctoral levels have produced results consistent with this perspective, our project aims to broaden the evaluation across larger samples to ensure greater accuracy. Such work is essential for both clinical application and the training of practitioners in health institutions, especially given the rising prevalence of psychological disorders and the need for interventions grounded in scientific research rather than other considerations.
