abstract
In response to the widespread disapproval of the built environment since the 1970s, numerous studies have examined the transformations linked to changing lifestyles and new construction technologies. The diversity of contributions in this volume is organized into two sections: one devoted to the human and social sciences, the other to technological sciences. Together, they illustrate both the potential and the limits of interdisciplinarity, as revealed through the intersections of topics related to the urban environment. The issues addressed concern socio-spatial practices, actor dynamics, and territorial processes, all in relation to the challenges and difficulties arising from urbanization. The reflections variously engage with heritage preservation, functional diversity, land resource management, residential comfort, and the risks and nuisances inherent in urban settings.
